They should be announced in the coming months

Great news for Nokia fans, as HMD Global has a couple more surprises for the second half of the year. With three Android smartphones already available on the market, HMD prepares a new lineup of handsets that should go official in the coming months.

The Finnish company seems to adopt a wise tactic by not competing with Samsung, LG, HTC and Google at the high-end tier. HMD Global hasn't announced a Nokia-branded flagship smartphone yet, and it doesn't look like this could happen anytime soon.

Two new smartphones are said to be in testing at HMD Global, NPU reports. Nokia 7 and Nokia 8 (names have yet to be confirmed) are the next Android smartphones coming from the Finnish company.

They pack better hardware than the current models, but they aren't flagships. First of all, both Nokia 7 and 8 will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 660 processor and will feature different displays with full HD (1080p) and Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution, respectively.

At least one of them might feature Zeiss lenses

We reported last week that HMD might still use Zeiss optics inside Nokia smartphones. Well, it appears that the Nokia 8 could be the first device launched by HMD to pack a camera with Zeiss lenses.

The information hasn't been confirmed yet, but in either case both Nokia mid-range smartphones will come with top-of-the-line cameras. Fingerprint readers will be included as well, but other than that, we know nothing else about the upcoming Nokia phones' hardware.

Design-wise, HMD will change the back side of the phones, especially the part that embeds the camera. Also, they will feature thin bezels, full metal chassis and unibody form factor.

It's unclear when exactly these new Android phones will go official, but we expect more info on the matter to emerge in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
