Rumors about Google working on two upcoming smartwatches have been circulating online for some time now, and renders of the two devices have already surfaced. Leakster Evan Blass recently announced that Google’s upcoming smartwatches could arrive in early 2017.

Google’s smartwatches carry the codenames Swordfish and Angelfish. The former will have a single button with a center made out of polished metal, interchangeable bands, and will be made available in silver, titanium and rose gold colors.

It might come with basic notification and communication features. The smartwatch might be made compatible with Google MODE bands.

Google’s Angelfish smartwatch might be slightly larger than Swordfish

The Swordfish might reach 42mm in diameter and 10.6mm in thickness, while Angelfish could come with built-in LTE and GPS connectivity. It might also have a heart rate sensor and three buttons for control.

The size of the Angelfish watch was also revealed - it could measure 14mm in thickness and 43.2mm in diameter, which would make it thicker and larger than the Swordfish. Angelfish could have the potential of being used as a standalone device and have applications integrated into Android Wear 2.0.

Renders that recently surfaced online showed that the smartwatches would come with a circular and clean design that’s very characteristic to Google. The two smartwatches were rumored to be released this fall, but it seems that Google has changed its mind.

The devices are expected to be the first to run the new and updated version of Android Wear. The platform for wearables will feature its own app store and improved Smart Reply features. The phone won’t be needed for using apps on Android Wear devices.

They will communicate through Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or cellular. In addition, users will have the possibility to download apps directly to their watch. Google also redesigned notification cards to show light text on a black background.
