The new look and feel will be rolling out in the coming days

Twitter announced today that it has prepared a major redesign for all of its applications on iOS, Android, PC, and Mac to making its social network feel faster, easier to use and lighter, faster than ever before.

The new look and feel appear to be the same on all supported mobile platforms, though Twitter has showcased only the iOS app on today's announcement. Twitter 7.0 already hit the App Store on iOS so you can update your Twitter app as we speak, but it looks like the redesign will be rolling out in the coming days.

Twitter's new revamp will also roll out across Twitter's website at twitter.com, as well as the TweetDeck Web App, Twitter Lite and Twitter for Android. Again, not everyone will get the new design at the same time, so if you don't see it, you'll have to wait a little longer to get it.

Privacy, profile, settings, and additional accounts are now all in one place

For the iOS app, Twitter has put the privacy, profile, settings, and additional accounts under a single side navigation menu to make it easier and quicker for iPhone and iPad users to access them. These changes are already available for Android users, since last year when Twitter revamped the app.

Another long-requested change for Twitter for iOS is that links to articles and websites will now be opened in Safari’s viewer inside the app, making it easier for users to access various of their accounts on the websites where they are logged in. Additionally, the typography was refined to make it more consistent.

To make it easier to interact with tweets, especially for newcomers, Twitter added more intuitive icons. "For example, people thought the reply icon, an arrow, meant delete or go back to a previous page. We switched to a speech bubble, a symbol most know and love. We also made the icons lighter for more seamless interaction," says Twitter in the blog announcement.

Last but not least, tweets can now automatically update themselves on a retweet, reply, and like counts for real-time interactions. A bunch of extra accessibility options were implemented as well, including the ability to increase the color contrast and to always open supported links in Safari Reader view. Again, make sure you update your apps to see the new design.
