Twitter has just announced Twitter Lite, a new mobile web experience that minimizes data usage, while loading information quickly on slower connections. Thus, the new Twitter Lite is aimed at emerging markets, where Internet speed isn’t always ideal.

Right off the bat, Twitter Lite isn’t an application, as opposed to other solutions offered by social networks like Facebook or video-streaming services, like YouTube. Twitter Lite isn’t available on the Play store, the web experience can be accessed from any smartphone or tablet by simply typing in mobile.twitter.com in the pre-installed browser.

This provides more advantages for users, since Twitter Lite takes up less than 1MB on the device and can be accessed by users in a number of countries. Twitter optimized the service’s speed and made sure that it launches up to 30% times faster than Twitter. The UI is almost identical to the main Twitter app, while all of the key features are there, including sections with Tweets, Direct Messages, trends, profiles, media uploads and notifications.

Moreover, Twitter added a data saver mode that reduces the amount of mobile data used, while providing the option to preview images and videos before fully loading them. Twitter says that data usage was reduced by up to 70%, making Twitter Lite suitable for use on unreliable mobile networks.
