The developers behind the TDE (Trinity Desktop Environment) project, an open-source desktop environment that keeps the spirit of KDE3.5 alive, have announced the immediate availability for download of Trinity Desktop Environment R14.0.1.

Trinity Desktop Environment R14.0.1 is the first maintenance release of the desktop R14 stable branch of the environment and adds numerous new features, such as support for the Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) operating system, support for the ARM64 and PPC64le (PowerPC 64-bit Little Endian) hardware architectures, as well as initial support for the FreeBSD operating system.

There are also many improvements in this release, such as better file filtering support in Konqueror, the ability to load codecs in KSquirrel, fixes for multiple Qt3 and TQt3 security alerts, better displaying of content in KHelpcenter, window transparency enhancements for TDE Compton, and better circular dependency in Ubuntu and Debian GNU/Linux packages.

"R14.0.1 is the first maintenance release of the R14.0 series and is the result of several months of ongoing effort by the TDE development team. Maintenance releases are intended to promptly bring bug fixes to users while preserving overall stability through the avoidance of both new features and major codebase re-factoring," reads the announcement.

Several issues have been fixed as well

In addition to the many changes mentioned above, Trinity Desktop Environment R14.0.1 fixes several issues reported by users since the previous release of the project. Among these, we can mention fixes for multiple TDE session manager crashes, a fix for a crash in the KMail email client that occurred when closing the software while in offline mode, and support for building TDevelop cmake template projects.

Last but not least, various issues with KDesktop, TDENetworkManager, TDEFileReplace, and Digikam's slideshow functionality have been addressed.

You can download the Trinity Desktop Environment R14.0.1 sources right now from Softpedia, but we recommend visiting the project's website to learn more about how you can install the desktop environment on your GNU/Linux distribution.
