14 DAY TRIAL // The Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE) for Unix-like operating systems was updated recently to version 14.0.4, the fourth maintenance release in the stable 14.x series of the project, which still tries to keep the spirit of the old-school KDE 3.5 desktop alive.
Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE) is supported in popular GNU/Linux distros like Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSuSE, PCLinuxOS, CentOS, Q4OS, SparkyLinux, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and the 14.0.4 release comes eight months after the previous maintenance update, version 14.0.3, with numerous improvements and bug fixes.
Prominent new features include support for the CUPS 2.2 printing system series, support for the FFMpeg 3.x multimedia backend series, support for GCC 6.x compiler series, support for the GStreamer 1.x multimedia framework series, as well as support for the RAR 5.x archiving tool.
"R14.0.4 is the fourth maintenance release of the R14.0 series, and is built on and improves the previous R14.0.3 version. Maintenance releases are intended to promptly bring bug fixes to users, while preserving overall stability through the avoidance of both new features and major codebase re-factoring," reads the announcement.
TDE 14.0.4 improves handling of folder location in the "Save" dialog
Apart from the usual bug fixes and security updates, which you can see in the full changelog attached at the end of the article, Trinity Desktop Environment 14.0.4 improves the startup times of the tdehw D-Bus daemon, support for the TQt Python scripts, as well as handling of folder location in the "Save" dialog.
Last but not least, the Trinity Desktop Environment 14.0.4 desktop environment updates the "METAR URL" function in the KWeather app, migrates to the new Jabber instant messaging protocol in the Kopete application, and implements a carefree time limit for the computer suspend settings in the TDEPowersave panel.
