Samsung is preparing to announce the new Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ during a special event to be held in New York City on March 29. Recent reports have stated that Samsung would equip the new phone with an Infinity Display.

A trademark application filed at the United States Patent and Trademark Office mentioned the Infinity Display technology, which would primarily be used on “mobile telephones.” Sadly, the trademark application doesn’t specifically say what Infinity Display refers to.

This is not the first time that the Infinity Display moniker is mentioned; a report from a few weeks ago said that the screen on the upcoming Galaxy S8 and S8+ would cover the majority of the front side.

The screen-to-body ratio should be quite high, as Samsung decided to ditch the home button on the upcoming flagship. As a result, the top and bottom bezels will be quite small.

Dual-edge displays with Quad HD+ resolution

Samsung is expected to feature Super AMOLED curved displays on both the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, as well as 2560 x 1440 pixel resolutions. The standard Galaxy S8 is said to come with a 5.8-inch screen, while the larger Galaxy S8+ is expected to feature a 6.2-inch display.

The phones will also come with a metallic frame and a fingerprint sensor relocated to the back of the phone, next to the rear camera. The phones will have a power / lock key on the right side and volume rockers on the left.

In addition, Samsung will equip the two smartphones with a dedicated physical Bixby AI button on the left side, which will allow users to call upon Samsung’s new virtual assistant. The flagship will run the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset or Exynos 8895 processor, depending on the country. The phone will be announced on March 29 and will most likely go on sale on April 21.
