Total Annihilation is believed to be one of the best real-time strategies ever made and is now available on Steam.

Total Annihilation was released all the way back in 1997, and it is credited to this day as being one of the best real-time strategy games ever made. It's easier to believe that if you're old enough to have played it when it was first released.

Total Annihilation was developed by a studio named Cavedog Entertainment, which no longer exists. It turns out that it did not have a game amazing enough for it to be remembered for decades as a successful business. In any case, the creator of the game was none other than Chris Taylor, who also happens to be one of the most influential characters in the history of gaming.

Chris Taylor is a name that should be easily recognized. After he had made Total Annihilation, he went on to found Gas Powered Games and create Dungeon Siege. He also worked on Supreme Commander (a spiritual sequel for Total Annihilation), Demigod, and a few others.

Total Annihilation is working on high resolution

The first question that users will probably have is if it works on modern computers. The answer is yes. It turns out that the company that bought the rights, Wargaming.net, adjusted the game for modern computers, but not just to make it work.

From what the users are saying, it has support for 1920x1200 resolution, it has both the Core Contingency and Battle Tactics expansions, and it starts on modern OSes.

"What began as a conflict over the transfer of consciousness from flesh to machines escalated into a war that has decimated a million worlds. The Core and the Arm have all but exhausted the resources of a galaxy in their struggle for domination. Both sides now crippled beyond repair, the remnants of their armies continue to battle on ravaged planets," reads the Steam entry.

The price on Steam is really small, so anyone can pick it up and just start playing it.
