Microsoft Garage keeps rolling out iOS apps

Rudy Huyn, who’s currently one of the top Windows Phone developers and the man behind several popular apps on the platform, is criticizing Microsoft Garage for focusing so much on iOS apps and bringing them out before rolling out a Windows 10 Mobile version.

Lately, Microsoft has been quite interested in iOS apps, and not only has it purchased several companies and apps running on rival platforms, but its Garage team has also rolled out new interesting experiments on these operating systems.

Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile have been pretty much ignored by Microsoft Garage, and this is just wrong, Rudy explains.

“Msft garage should have a strong rule: Ship first on W10, if you target iOS, use Islandwood, if you target android: search a other Win dev,” he says in his first tweet.

And that’s indeed true, and Rudy Huyn is right. One of the problems with Windows Phone (and now Windows 10 Mobile) is the lack of apps, and Microsoft Garage doesn’t seem to help solve this at all. The team behind this voluntary program is actually bringing more apps on rival platforms than on Microsoft’s own OS, which does nothing more than lead to a high level of frustration in the Windows community.

“Use Islandwood”

“Msft Garage, stop to release iOS-only apps, idea: I bring some devs/bloggers & we do a session ‘msft employees, you kill your own community.’ If really you prefer iOS to Windows 10 (no comments), use Islandwood and prove us you support your own company,” Huyn continues.

Indeed, turning to Project Islandwood to create iOS apps that would also run on Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile could be a solution in this case, but for the moment, Microsoft Garage’s interest in Apple’s operating system seems to be winning the race.

Certainly, Microsoft needs to change this strategy and bring these apps on Windows 10 Mobile before anywhere else, but it remains to be seen how fast the company manages to do that. For the moment, there are just too many apps available on iOS but not enough of them on Windows 10 Mobile, and even for the most hardcore fan, the struggle to stay on Windows is getting harder.
