Here are the 5 most voted features for Windows 10

On July 29, after rolling out the RTM version of Windows 10, Microsoft cleaned out the Windows Feedback app, archiving the old suggestions received from users during the testing period of the operating system, thus making room for new ones that are directly aimed at the final build of the software.

Indeed, the Windows Feedback app is once again full of feature requests from users who expected to see more from Windows 10 RTM, so below are the five most voted submissions so far.

#1 - There should be a unified inbox where you can view all of your mail at once. It is a hassle to keep switching between inboxes.

Right now, the Mail app bundled into Windows 10 allows you to set up multiple email accounts, and users are asking for a central inbox that would allow them to manage all messages at once, without having to jump from one account to another.

So basically, Microsoft should introduce a feature that works similarly to the BlackBerry Hub on BlackBerry devices, enabling users to manage accounts individually, but also to access all messages and notifications from a single place at once.

#2 - Let us choose where to save our downloads, not just to the default folder.

Microsoft Edge is the new browser in Windows 10, but just as we’ve said several times, it still lacks some key features, including the possibility of changing the default downloads folder.

By default, Edge stores all files in the Downloads folder in your PC library, but surprisingly, Microsoft isn’t offering an option to change that. So this is why this request is currently the second most-voted in the Feedback app. It’s easy to implement, so expect it in a future update.

#3 - Why can’t Cortana do some simple things, such as shutting down the computer?

Cortana finally made its debut on PC with Windows 10, but users expect the personal assistant to do more advanced things, such as controlling their power options.

Needless to say, shutting down a computer should be one of the things Cortana can do, and Microsoft most likely knows this, so expect such functionality to be added very soon.

#4 - Dark theme, please.

Windows 10 launched with a dark theme on the desktop, but users want Microsoft to go all-in on this approach and bring the black visual style in all apps across the OS.

In the last few months, we’ve seen quite a lot of concepts imagining a black theme, including in File Explorer, so this is one of the areas Microsoft should really focus on more.

#5 - GPU drivers should never ever be updated by Windows Update without express permission from the end user.

It’s a well-known fact that drivers can easily ruin your entire experience with an operating system, and bad GPU software is among the worst that can happen, so Windows 10 users don’t really want to be exposed to this kind of problem.

So in Windows 10, they say, Microsoft shouldn’t automatically install GPU drivers unless users really want it to. Fortunately, there’s a way to block driver updates in Windows 10.

Keep in mind that all of these are just suggestions, and there’s no confirmation that Microsoft wants to add them to Windows 10’s feature lineup. But as usual, the more votes, the bigger the chances to see them implemented, so launch the Feedback app and cast your vote.
