He wasn’t invited, but he was absolutely ok with it

Isabella “Bella” Cruise is Tom Cruise’s daughter with ex-wife Nicole Kidman, and she got married last month in a super-secret ceremony in London. Word of the nuptials only got out in the media yesterday, when it was also revealed that neither Tom nor Nicole was in attendance.

Bella married IT specialist Max Parker, who, apparently, was a non-Scientologist. Tom Cruise, on the other hand, is the number 1 celebrity spokesperson for the cult, and many assumed that his not being at the wedding was some sort of snub towards his daughter for marrying outside Scientology.

Tom Cruise wasn’t at the wedding

Scientology is infamous for its exclusiveness and its strictness with its members. When someone decides to defect, if their departure isn’t on good terms, they’re dubbed a Suppressive Person and are barred any further contact with remaining members, even if they’re family or very close friends.

Bella is a Scientologist just like her father, having been raised into it. In recent months, though, there’s been talk of how she was distancing herself from the organization, so marrying an outsider could have been an act of rebellion.

At least, that’s what the media assumed. Because she was walking away from the Church, Tom snubbed her by refusing to attend the wedding.

TMZ claims to have the real story from sources close to the actor: he wasn’t at the wedding, for sure, but it wasn’t because he wasn’t invited or he had snubbed his daughter. He wasn’t there because no parent was there, because Bella and Max wanted to have a small ceremony with just their friends.

In the end, there were no hard feelings about it, the report claims.

Cruise wasn’t there, but he paid for the whole thing

And here’s “proof” that Tom’s absence didn’t mean anything: he paid for everything.

“[Not only was] Tom cool with the decision, he footed the bill for the wedding and party at the fancy schmancy Dorchester hotel,” TMZ says.

As for reports that Tom hasn’t even met his son-in-law, they’re bogus: they met and actually get along just fine. In fact, the same insider reports, he and Bella and Tom spent last Thanksgiving and Christmas together.
