14 DAY TRIAL // The development team behind the Tiny Core project has been proud to announce the release and immediate availability for download of the Tiny Core Linux 7.2 operating system.
The development cycle of Tiny Core Linux 7.2, which doesn't bring any major changes, was pretty fast, as the distribution entered the Release Candidate stage a week ago, on June 24. Usually, the Tiny Core developers release two RC builds before the final release, but that's not the case with Tiny Core Linux 7.2.
Moreover, it looks like the same changes that were implemented in the first and only Release Candidate version also landed in the final release of one of the tiniest computer operating systems based on the Linux kernel, and designed to be used either as a server or a barebone OS that you can modify according to your needs.
What's new in Tiny Core Linux 7.2
According to the release notes, new features implemented in Tiny Core Linux 7.2 include improvement to ondemand in the tc-functions script, a patch that allows passing of arguments and quoting of arguments to ondemand and tc-functions, and support for passing arguments to ondemand items that do not contain a .desktop file.
Other than that, it also looks like ondemand will no longer start by itself, and the "clear" command has been moved from the tc-config script to the end of the rcS script. "Note that the last four changes had been previously implemented in corepure64, but omitted from core by mistake," said the Tiny Core developers in the announcement.
Tiny Core Linux is distributed in multiple editions, including Core, Core Plus and Tiny Core, each one being available for both 64-bit and 32-bit hardware architectures, with the exception of Core Plus, which is only built to work on x86 platforms.
