This is what a Windows watch could actually look like

Microsoft already has a wearable device, the Band, but since it’s more of a fitness tracker, more people are wondering how come Redmond isn’t looking for something more of a smartwatch that could compete against the likes of Apple Watch and Huawei Watch.

That’s exactly what designer Sean McConnell (via Yanko Design) has tried to do with his own Windows watch concept that imagines a new premium smartwatch bearing Microsoft’s logo and powered by a customized version of Windows 10.

Called the “Microsoft Surface watch,” this device would be inspired from the Surface tablet and be designed by the same team that makes the whole lineup of hybrids and headed by none other than Panos Panay.

Windows 10 at its core

As you can see for yourselves in the photo gallery below, the watch comes with a square screen whose design is borrowed from the Surface tablet, and although it might look a little bit odd at first, it can certainly be very luxurious on the wrist.

But certainly the most interesting part of the entire device is the software running on it, as it could come with Windows 10 and provide the same live tile-based interface as on Windows 10 Mobile. You should be able to make phone calls from a familiar UI and send text messages, just like you do on the Apple Watch right now when someone’s calling you.

You should also be able to choose from several watch faces, most likely analog and digital, and benefit from additional customization options.

Obviously, this is still the result of someone’s imagination at this point, but having such a device could certainly be very appealing to plenty of Microsoft customers looking for a fully featured smartwatch that could compete against the Apple Watch. Because despite all of its great features, the Band is more of a Fitness rival than an Apple Watch competitor.
