Chuwi announces new dual-boot tablet with keyboard supported

Chuwi is one of the Chinese companies that launched pretty appealing devices running both Windows 10 and Android, and now the company is getting ready to debut another such product, this time also featuring support for a keyboard.

While this essentially makes it a 2-in-1 device, Chuwi positions the Hi8 Air as a tablet running Windows 10 and Android 5.1, coming with several hardware upgrades over the standard Hi8 model.

Obviously, Android 5.1 isn’t quite the best choice when it comes to a device launched in 2018, but on the other hand, Chuwi hopes its tablet would impress with the other hardware capabilities, which include an 8-inch full HD screen with 16:10 aspect ratio and Intel X5 Cherry Trail Z8350 processor running at 1.44 GHz.

Not a productivity workhorse

The processor is paired with only 2GB RAM and 32GB internal space, with microSD card support allowing for an extra 128GB should it be needed.

Just like every other Chuwi model, the Hi8 Air comes with several connectivity options, including a micro USB port, micro HDMI, and 3.5 mm headphone jack. The battery is a 4,000 mAh unit.

No details were provided on the price of the device, but it’s worth knowing that the Hi8 Air also comes with a Bluetooth keyboard in the box, so you’ll be able to convert it to a more productive computer should you need to type faster.

On the other hand, the hardware specifications don’t make it quite a productivity workhorse, and running Windows 10 could be a little bit slow, though it’s important to note that Android is also offered should anyone want to use it for gaming or things like that.

More information on when the device would go on sale is expected to be provided soon, as Chuwi is yet to release the full announcement on the Hi8 Air.
