External cooling to the rescue for overheating devices

Overheating devices tend to become a serious issue for each and every one of us, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is living proof that they can pose a huge risk to us if they don’t cool down as fast as possible.

Reports of exploding Galaxy Note 7 have made Samsung issue a global recall and replace each of the sold Note 7 units with a brand new one that’s supposed not to have a defective battery.

But if you don’t want to wait for Samsung to take care of the exploding Galaxy Note 7, and you’re more of a DIY man, you can do something similar to what this guy did with his Surface Pro 4.

It compromises portability, but at least it doesn’t explode

Because his device was overheating in Adobe Premiere Pro, he decided to install huge external coolers that automatically kick in when a certain temperature is reached. He’s already planning the next-generation upgrade for his home-made cooling system, which he hopes will be even more effective.

“This is held together with 4 zip ties, 4 rubber stick-on feet to keep the fans off the surface, and I cut and bent some bobby pins to clip it on. It actually is very stable. The next version will use 3 92mm fans instead of these two 80mn fans, and will be USB-powered,” he explains on reddit.

The only problem with this project is that it kind of impacts that portability of the device and makes it more of a desktop-type of productivity machine.

Now, about those overheating Samsung Galaxy Note 7 units, it’s worth knowing that Samsung is now working with partners and carriers around the globe to exchange all phones with new ones that are supposed to present no risk of explosion.

Unfortunately, until the recall is completed, more explosions could take place, and it was only yesterday that an Australian reported that his Note 7 caught fire in his hotel room while sleeping. The outcome was a few burns, $1,800 worth of damages to the hotel room, and a ruined phone. Maybe this thing could help?
