Check if your accounts are involved in security breaches

There’s no such thing as being too secure, and Internet users know this very well because there’s always a new security breach that could expose their computers or their accounts.

And while antivirus solutions and security software do a good job protecting them, there’s now a new way to make sure that none of your accounts was impacted by security breaches. It’s called “Hacked?” and it’s a universal app for Windows 10 that checks if your own accounts were involved in the latest hacks happening online.

The magic behind this app is that it connects to the haveibeenpwned API to check your accounts on any Windows 10 device. And since it’s a universal app, it works not only on Windows 10 PCs but also on smartphones and… HoloLens.

Background account monitoring

When you first run the app, it prompts you to set up your accounts, and it can not only quickly verify it after configuration but also check for changes regularly. The built-in monitoring system performs new checks every 12 hours to make sure that your accounts haven’t been involved in the latest security breaches.

Haveibeenpwned is updated regularly with new information, and that’s why it’s important for “Hacked?” to make sure that your accounts are fully secure every once in a while.

And WinBeta notes, the app also sends you notifications and runs in the background, so you just set it up and you can forget about it. The developing team says that your accounts are fully secure because they’re not shared with anybody, as the app only connects to the aforementioned API, which, in turn, uses the HTTPS protocol.

It goes without saying that this is the very first version of the app, and it’s still in its early days, so there’s still room for improvement. But on the other hand, it’s good to see the Windows 10 universal app concept growing with more apps from a wide variety of categories.
