ShadowFX receives update for Windows 10 today

Stardock has just released an update to its ShadowFX app, as it introduces new features that are specifically aimed at Windows 10 users, including support for the configured accent color.

What ShadowFX does is add a shadow effect to your active or background windows, allowing the configuration of several basic settings, including shadow style and color.

And while the color of the shadow is one neat touch that you can give to the default effect, the latest version of the app comes with support for the selected accent color in Windows 10, a feature that Microsoft introduced in its latest operating system.

Windows 10 users can thus configure accent colors that show up across the operating system, with dedicated options to preserve the default look of the Start menu and the taskbar, or to simply expand the same colors across them as well.

Using the Windows accent color

With this update, ShadowFX can thus check to see what accent color you are using on your Windows 10 system and then use it as well for the shadow effect added to your windows. This leads to more consistency across the operating system, though we’ve noticed that manually picking the shadow color leads to better results in terms of visual improvements.

Also, it’s worth noting that depending on the accent color configured on your system, the resulted shadow effect is more or less visible, and the easiest way to see it in action is to put a certain window on a white background - for instance, you can run File Explorer in full screen and then reduce the size of another window to have it displayed over the white background.

Without a doubt, this new update comes in very handy to those who are bored with the default Windows 10 look, so go ahead and download ShadowFX right now to see what it’s up to. A trial is available free of charge, while the full license costs $5.
