Brilliant concept imagines upcoming redesign of the MacBook

Rumor has it that Apple might be redesigning the MacBook Pro for the next generation, and instead of a top row of function keys, the company could go for a secondary OLED display that would offer so many more features to users.

And despite the fact that Cupertino has remained completely tight-lipped on such speculation (a thing that Apple always does when it comes to information concerning unreleased products), Dutch designer Martin Hajek (via NWE) has used the available details to create a concept that envisions what the new MacBook Pro with an OLED touchpad could look like.

The result is fabulous and clearly shows why Apple really needs to do that: the OLED screen that replaces the top row of keys can be used not only for shortcuts and traditional tasks but also for getting information about the laptop, such as battery life. Furthermore, it can display the current time, the logged-on user, calendar data, and other similar details.

Launch in the fall

Since it replaces function keys, the OLED screen can also be used for providing quick access to a number of features bundled into Mac OS X, such as search and Siri - yes, there’s a rumor that Apple could bring the personal assistant to the desktop, in a similar way that Microsoft has already embraced for Cortana for Windows 10 PCs.

Certainly, an OLED screen would be a welcome addition to a device that needs a significant overhaul, but unfortunately, there’s still no evidence that such a change could happen. There were voices claiming that the new MacBook Pro could launch at the upcoming WWDC conference that kicks off the next week, but our sources indicate that this will be a software-only event, so no hardware this year.

In other words, the MacBook Pro is more likely to make its first public appearance in the fall, so keep your fingers crossed to see this OLED screen being added to the device.
