Nokia is expected to make a smartphone comeback

There have been a lot of rumors going around lately saying that Nokia is looking to make a return to the smartphone market soon. And in a recent interview, Nokia’s CEO Rajeev Suri decided to spill the beans and admitted that the company it is presiding over was in the process of looking for partners that would help it bring its smartphones to the market.

Once one of the largest phone makers in the world, Nokia was forced to sell its device and service division to Microsoft. So the company is prohibited from launching another smartphone until 2016.

Still, Nokia managed to find a workaround to this situation and last year it unexpectedly unleashed a tablet computer called the N1, which runs Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. And as it turns out, by 2016, Nokia might adopt the same strategy while its smartphone endeavors are concerned.

As always, concept phone designers are a little ahead of things, and they have already envisioned what the forthcoming Nokia phone might look like.

Nokia's comeback phones already imagined

For example, Russian creative designer Dmitriy Mezenin has posted on Behence a few renders showcasing his vision of the future of Nokia handsets.

He seems to believe that, in order for Nokia to be able to capture back the interest of consumers, the device maker must come up with something special that does not copy the look of older Lumias. So he is presenting us with the Nokia E1 concept, which boast a rather atypical form factor.

The E1 takes advantage of a 4.95-inch fully laminated zero air-gap display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and Gorilla Glass 3 coating. The screen is an IPS panel with LED backlight.

For the chipset included under the hood, Nokia is expected to partner up with Intel, which could provide a 64-bit Atom Z3580 processor clocked at 2.3GHz fitted with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of RAM. PowerVR G430 at 533MHz completes the picture.

On the imaging front, we have a 20MP rear-facing camera with autofocus and a 5MP front-facing camera with fixed focus and 1080p video recording.

The phone is envisioned to take advantage of Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, which is what is probably going to happen in real life. The phone is powered by a 2,700 mAh battery.
