What if Apple started making clamshell phones?

Martin Hajek is a well-known concept artist famous for its renders of up-and-coming Apple products. He sometimes also toys with the idea of products that will probably never actually become real life devices. Like the one he envisioned in his latest fun little project.

At some point, flip phones were quite popular among mobile users around the world, and actually clamshells still retain a high level of popularity in Asian markets like Japan and South Korea, which love to be against the trend. So Hajek wondered what if Apple released a flip iPhone especially tailored for these markets?

The result can be viewed in the gallery below and it actually does seem to make a lot of sense. The phone looks quite sleek and retains the full functional touchscreen iPhone fans are accustomed to (no physical buttons involved). There are also a lot of Hello Kitty references thrown into the mix, and if you’re into that sort of thing, you’ll probably enjoy the concept even more.

Companies like LG and Samsung are not skittish when it comes to launching clamshell models in Asian countries these days, but we don’t think Apple would ever take things as far as producing a flip iPhone exclusively for these markets.

In related news, the Cupertino tech giant is expected to unveil the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus soon enough. The two models might be joined by a third phone, possibly the iPhone 6c, but we have a lot of contradicting information on the topic for the time being.

Apple’s new iPhone 6s will probably look extremely similar to last year’s iPhone 6 (in terms of design). Hardware is another story, as we expect the new model to make a debut with a 4.7-inch display and improved 1080p resolution. Processing power will come from a next-gen A9 processor that will work in concert with 2GB of RAM. We also expect Apple to use a Force Touch display with its next-gen iPhone models.
