Google and the city of Mountain View have released more details on the company's upcoming project, which will see Google build a new campus for its employees at 1200 Shoreline Boulevard, in Mountain View, California.

Last May, Google had to drop initial plans for its upcoming campus in North Bayshore and settle for a new location in Charleston East, a few miles away.

Initially, Google sought to retain building rights over a 50-acre real estate split across four locations in North Bayshore. Many companies also fought for the same spots, and after a long debate, the Mountain View city council decided to give 32 of those acres to LinkedIn for their new headquarters while Google only got one spot of 11.8 acres.

Google had to move to Charleston East after failing to secure a bigger lot

Not satisfied with its existing lot, Google requested and was approved a new location in Charleston East, one that covers 18.6 acres of land, for which it is currently seeking environmental and building approvals.

Here, Google plans to build 595,000 square feet of floor space, 45,000 square feet of interior landscaping, and 18,500 square feet of internal pathways, or "public roads" that go through Google's campus buildings.

Most of the plans remained the same as with the original North Bayshore project, and Google's architects, Heatherwick Studio and Bjarke Ingels Group, had little changes to make to their initial design.

This also marks the first time when Google actually builds its headquarters, as until now, the company has only been leasing office space in existing buildings.

You can check out more details about Google's preliminary project plan here (be patient, it's a slow-loading 34-page PDF). For more in-depth details, the original North Bayshore plan holds more information (232-page PDF). We also extracted some of the building renderings, which you can see in full by clicking the image below.
