StartIsBack gets taskbar skinning options with new update

There are many Start menu apps out there that can help you restore the look of the original Start menu in Windows 10, but only few actually get very close to the design used by Microsoft.

StartIsBack is one of these apps, and starting with version 1.2, Windows 10 users also receive taskbar skinning options that can get their desktop’s look even closer to the one in Windows 7.

StartIsBack 1.2 for Windows 10 is now available for download with options not only to replace the built-in OS Start menu but also to restore the original design of the taskbar.

Microsoft changed the taskbar approach in Windows 10, and although it does offer a blur effect that looks quite good, users are still dreaming about more advanced options that would allow them not only to adjust the transparency level but also make it look more like the one in Windows 7.

The Windows 7 look

So thanks to this new update, StartIsBack can do this for you with just a few clicks, and if you wish, you can also make the taskbar fully transparent - this option was already there in previous versions, though.

As you can see in the photo gallery below, the look of the Start menu is completely changed, so yes, there are no live tiles in there. It’s just the classic Windows 7 look that makes your desktop feel a lot more familiar than in Windows 10.

If you still wish to access the pre-installed Windows 10 apps, there’s a small folder called “Start Apps” that groups all of them, but as far as live tiles are concerned, they are no longer available.

All in all, there’s no doubt this is one of the best Start menu apps currently on the market, and thanks to this update, it’s even better for those looking for the traditional Windows 7 feel. So just download StartIsBack to see what it’s capable of.
