The device could be unveiled in the fall

This year’s fall is very likely to be a super-busy time of the year for Apple, as recent reports have pointed to a plethora of devices that could see daylight in the coming months, including the second-generation iPhone SE, the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus, and the iPhone 8.

And now you can add a new device to that list, as a report from Digitimes reveals that Apple could take the wraps off the third-generation Apple Watch in just a few months as well.

While little has been said about the device, the report somewhat makes sense given Apple’s planned software releases, which include the new watchOS 4. Apple could thus launch a new device to spearhead the debut of an updated watchOS, though the new operating system would also be available for its existing Watch models.

Improved battery life and cellular support?

And while reports on the new Apple Watch have so far been rather scarce, it’s believed the device could come with improved battery life that would, in its turn, support the addition of some new features, like sleep tracking. Apple is also expected to improve swimming support after first introducing this feature on the Apple Watch Series 2.

One particular feature that has long been rumored to arrive on the Apple Watch is cellular support, which would allow a device to work independently from the iPhone and be able to start and receive calls just like a stand-alone smartphone.

While similar smartwatches from rival companies already launched with such features, Apple has until now remained tight-lipped on such a project, though sources familiar with the matter said several times that the company was exploring such a project.

The third-generation Apple Watch could be presented at the September event when Apple could take the wraps off the new iPhone 8, but once again, this is just in the rumor stage for the time being and a certain amount of skepticism is recommended.
