Violence and guns are things of the past when it comes to bank robberies, as a thief shows in a freshly published video how an automated teller machine (ATM) is emptied of the money cassettes.

The robbery occurred on May 27, 2012, in Germany, but a video of the incident became publicly available only on Wednesday.

Man stole over half a million Euros

Surveillance footage shows an individual, cap on, face hidden, entering the ATM premises of a bank, gaining access to the cash boxes and walking out with four of them in less than two minutes.

The man does not have any trouble opening the safe container, which indicates that he was very familiar with the system and could possibly be an ATM technician.

During that night, the thief hit a total of five cash machines, all belonging to Commerzbank, and it is believed that the heist did not take more than 85 minutes to complete, causing losses of about €560,000 / $627,000.

Thief could be an insider

More evidence supporting the theory that the thief was an insider is the fact that he keeps on with the robbery even when a bank client walks in on him and withdraws money from a nearby system.

As the client makes the transaction, the robber pulls out three money cases as if the action was simple routine that did not require any shielding from public eye.

On the other hand, given that he robbed multiple machines that night, it could be that the experience was not a first and he simply maintained his cool and carried on with the task as if it were perfectly legitimate in order to not raise suspicion.

In the description of the video it is stated that the police does not have any lead in this case and the only clue about the perpetrator is his estimated height.

Such heists are not uncommon, as more videos of this type started to appear lately. At the beginning of 2014, footage emerged from a robbery in India that took place in 2012 as well, showing a man, clearly service personnel, opening the machine with the right keys and taking cash from it.
