4MLinux developer Zbigniew Konojacki informed us today on the general availability of the TheSSS 23.1 maintenance update of the Smallest Server Suite GNU/Linux distribution.

TheSSS 23.1 is a small update to the open-source, server-oriented GNU/Linux distribution and it's based on the recently released 4MLinux Server 23.1 operating system, which means that it runs the Linux 4.9.61 LTS kernel under the hood, along with other updates like OpenSSL 1.0.2m, Postfix 3.2.4, and Stunnel 5.43.

On the server side of things, TheSSS 23.1 updates the MariaDB database server to version 10.2.10, the Apache web server to version 2.4.29, as well as the PHP packages to both 7.0.25 and 5.6.32 releases, the latter being available for compatibility reasons.

"This is a minor (point) release based on the 4MLinux Server 23.1, meaning that the components of the LAMP server are now: Linux 4.9.61, Apache 2.4.29, MariaDB 10.2.10, and PHP (both 5.6.32 and 7.0.25)," said Zbigniew Konojacki‏ in today's announcement.

Existing users urged to update their systems

TheSSS 23.1 is available for download right now from our website, but if you're running the GNU/Linux distribution on your personal computer, you can update your TheSSS installation by running the "zk update" command in a terminal emulator.

The update process is fully automatic so you won't have to do anything else. Once the update is complete, you'll be using the latest software releases mentioned above. Those who want to deploy TheSSS on new PCs, can use the live ISO image.

TheSSS (Smallest Server Suite) is an open-source operating system based on the Linux kernel and designed to provide users with a live Linux server that can be run in a few minutes directly from a bootable medium (e.g. USB stick) and without installation anything on their personal computers.
