14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft announced Fluent Design at Build this week as the next visual makeover coming in Windows 10, providing us with a quick glimpse into how everything could look in the Fall Creators Update as part of a video aired during the conference.
As you can also see in the screenshots in the photo gallery below, Fluent Design, or Project Neon as many of us know it given that this is the current codename that Microsoft uses internally, will completely transform Windows 10 apps, making some of them look absolutely stunning as compared to the existing versions.
In addition to the typical blur and transparency effects that we’ve already seen in a number of Windows 10 apps, and updates as work on Windows 10 Redstone 3 (Fall Creators Update) advances, Microsoft is also preparing new visual effects and animations that will be available across the operating system.
The Windows Store will be one of the apps getting a refined interface, and everything looks significantly cleaner, without Microsoft specifically using separators for each section.
New File Explorer
By the looks of things, the company is also preparing a new version of the File Explorer, with the video including a screenshot highlighting a modern interface with Fluent Design tweaks as well.
The new file manager comes in line with the other Windows 10 apps getting updated with Fluent Design, and looks completely different from the existing version, with a dark sidebar for quickly browsing the top locations, plus the file list where the focus is clearly put on content. Everything looks substantially cleaner, and judging from this design, it’s optimized for use with a mouse and keyboard.
Microsoft will also make HoloLens an essential part of this overhaul, so all the new apps will support Redmond’s revolutionary technology.
The next Windows 10 update is projected to launch in September, and the new apps are expected to make their way to insider builds in the coming months.
