Microsoft has finally started the Windows 10 Mobile rollout for Windows Phone devices, but just as expected, not everyone is getting the upgrade at this point.

The release will take place in stages, so only a few are getting it at first, but eventually, Microsoft says that Windows 10 Mobile will land on more devices that are currently running Windows Phone.

The first wave includes the previous Windows Phone flagships Lumia 930 and 1520, but also the more popular 640 and 640 XL. And yet, the best-selling Lumia ever, the 520, is not part of this release, but will be included at a later time.

Full list of devices getting the upgrade

This is the full list of devices getting the upgrade: Lumia 1520, 930, 640, 640XL, 730, 735, 830, 532, 535, 540, 635 1GB, 636 1GB, 638 1GB, 430, 435, BLU Win HD w510u, BLU Win HD LTE x150q, and MCJ Madosma Q501.

“The availability of Windows 10 Mobile as an upgrade for existing Windows Phone 8.1 devices will vary by device manufacturer, device model, country or region, mobile operator or service provider, hardware limitations, and other factors,” Microsoft said.

The first devices are already getting the upgrade as we speak, but Microsoft says that it’s already working with partners across the world to get it ready for more devices.

“If the upgrade is available for your existing Windows Phone 8.1 device, you can install the upgrade when available. We're working with phone manufacturers and mobile operators to make Windows 10 Mobile available to supported Windows Phone 8.1 devices as an update,” it said.

At this point, there’s no timing as to when the operating system could become available to all the other devices, but Windows 10 Mobile will be released gradually to a wider range of Windows Phone devices. Hopefully, it won’t take too long before more Windows Phone devices are upgraded because until now the wait for Windows 10 Mobile has led to an unexpected amount of criticism against the company.
