A new project could bring us another Snapchat app on WP

Snapchat is still a forbidden name in the Windows Phone world, and some claim it’s because the company’s CEO hates Microsoft and has no intention of either bringing an official client on the platform or allowing third-party apps.

And yet, developer Filiph Sandström hopes his open-source Snapchat client can get past Snapchat’s blocking filters and obtain the permission to remain in the store as long as it doesn’t infringe on any rules.

His project, which is currently published on Github (via WMPU), is called SwiftSnapper and could let Windows Phone/Windows 10 Mobile/Windows 10 users connect to Snapchat just as they do with the official client.

The app is still work in progress at the moment, so it’s too early to discuss whether it’ll be allowed by Snapchat or not, but it’ll be interesting to see how this one develops over time.

6snap developer says this one will be removed too

Rudy Huyn, the developer of Snapchat third-party client 6snap, said in a series of tweets this morning that Snapchat simply hates Microsoft, so there are only slight chances to see the company allow a third-party client to exist on Windows Phone.

“Whatever the API you use, Snapchat’s lawyer will send you a mail, don’t lose your time. Remember one thing: there is a lot of Snapchat third-party apps on Android/iOS, but they send lawyers to WP only. Sideloading is not an option,” he explained.

For the moment, an official reason as to why Snapchat apps are not available on Windows Phone does not exist, but previously, the company said that it wanted to remove third-party clients because of security concerns. Such apps, however, still exist on rival platforms such as Android and iOS, both of which already have an official client as well.

It remains to be seen if this new third-party client can actually survive on Windows Phone.
