The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developer CD Projekt Red confirms that the first major expansion for the sprawling role-playing game, Hearts of Stone, is nearing completion and that fans who adore the Gwent mini-game in the title will receive some "good news" soon enough.

The Witcher 3 launched worldwide on May 19 across PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms. Since then, the Polish studio behind the huge RPG has released a wide array of updates and patches in order to eliminate bugs and balance gameplay. At the same time, it's released 16 different DLC packs completely free to all owners of the game, bringing lots of goodies, from new quests and missions to fresh gear, alternative outfits, and even the New Game+ mode.

Currently, the studio is hard at work on the two big expansions that were confirmed for The Witcher 3 ahead of its actual launch - Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.

Hearts of Stone is nearing completion

After teasing a few details about the plot of Hearts of Stone and how it will bring plenty of twists, CD Projekt Red confirmed, via DualShockers, at the PAX Prime event over the weekend that the actual add-on was "almost ready." According to the Polish team, the expansion is shaping up nicely and seems to be on track for its intended October debut.

The studio didn't mention anything about a possible early release for the add-on, so it's a safe bet that the second month of fall will bring the new add-on for The Witcher 3.

Good news coming for Gwent fans

The studio was also asked if it would launch a standalone version of Gwent, the collectible card game that's featured as an optional mini-game in the RPG. The team acknowledged that desire but couldn't offer any actual details. However, it did say that Gwent fans would be on the receiving end of some "good news" in the near future.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to get Hearts of Stone this October and the second expansion, Blood and Wine, in the first quarter of 2016.
