After providing us with several teaser statements and a few ambiguous details about the first expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt Red has finally revealed a release date for the Hearts of Stone add-on, not to mention a gameplay video, some screenshots, and story details.

The Witcher 3 launched in May of this year across PC, PS4, and Xbox One. As promised, developer CD Projekt Red released a myriad of updates and patches in order to solve problems and add new features, not to mention 16 free DLC packs that included new quests, gear, outfits, and other such things.

In recent weeks, the studio has started talking about the first expansion for The Witcher 3, called Hearts of Stone. The add-on is set to appear in October and the team has revealed a few interesting details in the last few days.

Hearts of Stone now has a release date and many new materials

Now, the studio has just presented a huge range of new details about The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone. The add-on is set to appear on October 13, worldwide, across PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

It includes 10 hours of new adventures, introduces fresh characters, imposing monsters, and even a new romance for protagonist Geralt of Rivia.

According to the official description, Hearts of Stone sees Geralt try to defeat a bandit captain called Olgierd von Everec, who apparently possesses the power of immortality.

"The expansion lets you choose your own way through an adventure that includes recruiting a crew of break-in artists, spending a night partying with a ghost and outsmarting the most bizarre creatures Geralt has ever faced," the studio explains.

A new mechanic called Runeword significantly affects gameplay

Besides the new storyline, Hearts of Stone also brings a new mechanic called Runeword that significantly affects gameplay and allows players to experiment. Unfortunately, no actual details are available about it.

Hearts of Stone arrives as a digital download and costs $10/€10. It's also available as part of the Expansion Pass for $20/€20, which also includes the second upcoming DLC, Blood and Wine. A limited edition boxed version of Hearts of Stone is also coming, as you can see below, and features for $20/€20 two real-life Gwent decks, a manual, and a collector's box.
