The two major expansion packs for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are going to deliver quite a lot of content, and developer CD Projekt Red even goes as far as to compare it to The Witcher 2, the last game in the series.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt launched back in May across PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It delivered a sprawling role-playing experience that can be completed in tens or even hundreds of hours, depending on how much you explore and how many side missions you complete.

Since then, CD Projekt Red has released several free DLC packs that brought new quests, items, and outfits for the main cast of characters. However, work on the two major expansions confirmed earlier this year for the game is still ongoing.

The two major add-ons offer tens of hours of content

While talking with GameReactor, developer CD Projekt Red confirms that the time estimate offered when the expansions were announced is a minimal one.

In case you forgot, the first expansion, named Hearts of Stone, should last about 10 hours, while the second one, Blood and Wine, will require around 20 hours.

Couple these together and throw in the various other activities that will be possible within them, and they could end up rivaling The Witcher 2 in terms of content, according to the studio's Konrad Tomaszkiewicz

"The expansion packs will be whole new storylines with all the elements you've got in the main story (like cutscenes, new characters, new items, new Gwent cards) and many, many more. They will be quite long. And even now, if you sum up this 10 to 20 hours and you compare it to The Witcher 2, it's almost the size of The Witcher 2. And it will be cool, it will be new stories, it will be very emotional stories and I think that people will be happy."

As of yet, the studio is focusing on the next major patch for the game, in the form of update 1.07, as well as on the final free DLC packs that should appear soon enough.
