14 DAY TRIAL // Windows 10 build 10565 certainly comes with improvements that are supposed to overhaul the experience we get on the desktop, and one of the most important changes is the addition of new context menus that look more natural for use with a mouse and keyboard.
If you’re a long-time Windows insider, you probably know that, in the previous builds, the software giant redesigned the desktop context menu for use with touch. The result, however, wasn’t quite the best, as each option was larger to make more sense for touch-capable devices, but they couldn’t adapt when using a mouse and keyboard.
So in build 10565, the Windows development team has finally focused a little bit more on the context menus that you see on the desktop, so they now have a look, size, and feel that can be used with a mouse.
Context menus in Windows 10
Context menu consistency across Windows 10 was one of the biggest problems in the operating system, as Microsoft offered a different look for the right-click options almost everywhere on the desktop.
For example, the context menus we had on the desktop were different from the ones we got to see when right-clicking a live tile in the Start menu and also different from the version that was launched for taskbar items.
But Microsoft appears to be paying much more attention to context menus these days, and build 10565 is living proof that things are going in the right direction.
Keep in mind, however, that all these improvements are still part of the Windows 10 preview program, and it could take a while until they arrive in the stable version of the operating system.
And yet, it’s good to see Microsoft improving context menus and working to refine the overall experience in Windows 10, especially because the mouse and keyboard combo continues to be the only way to interact with computers for millions of users out there.
