We've been toying with the idea of a tablet powered by the Ubuntu Linux operating system from Canonical for quite some time now, as there have been a few attempts from various tech companies to create such a device, some of which proved to be a hoax.

We also know that some hardcore Ubuntu fans managed to install the world's most popular free operating system on various tablet devices, such as NVIDIA Shield, Teclast X80H, Microsoft Surface Pro 3, Mobie, or even Lenovo ThinkPad 8, but there's no dedicated Ubuntu Tablet device on the market, yet.

Startup MJ Technology LLC has recently announced that they are developing what it would appear to be a beefy tablet powered by the almighty Ubuntu Linux operating system, the desktop version of it, at least that's what we can see in the video attached at the end of the article.

According to the guys over MJ Technology, there will be two models for the Ubuntu Tablet, an 8.9-inch one, and a 10.1-inch one. The technical specifications of the tablets look pretty good if you ask us, but you can see for yourself below. Also, don't forget to check out the gallery!

Technical specifications of MJ Technology's Ubuntu tablets

The Ubuntu Tablets from MJ Technology will have an Intel Quad Core CPU running at 2.4 GHz, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 64GB internal storage (optional 128GB), a MicroSD slot for external storage supporting up to 128GB cards, a mini PCI-Express slot with external access, a USB 2.0 port, a USB 3.0 port, a Micro USB port, and Micro HDMI out.

Additionally, they will have 8.9" and 10.1" HD IPS displays, respectively, with a 1920x1200 resolution offering 10-point multi-touch, 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, two 2W speakers, an 8MP front-facing camera, a 13MP rear-facing camera, 3.5mm headphone out, as well as Gyroscope, G-Sensor, and Compass sensors.

While the 8.9-inch Ubuntu Tablet model will boast a 7,500mAh battery, the 10.1-inch version will be powered by an 8,500mAh battery. The price will start from $349.99 (€313.00) for the 8.9" model and $399.99 (€358) for the 10.1" variant. Pre-orders will start this week, according to MJ Technology, on their upcoming www.MJ-Technology.com website.
