The smartphone will now be launched in April 2016

The Turing Phone was announced last year as one of the most secure and durable Android smartphones soon to be available on the market.

The smartphone should have been released last year, but the company's CEO announced Turing Phone launch has been postponed for 2016. According to Steve Chao, the Turing Phone should be shipped “no later than the end of Q1.”

Unfortunately, that will not happen, as the company behind the project has just confirmed to its customers that the Turing Phone launch has been delayed by one month. This means that the Turing Phone should now be released in April 2016.

But that's not the only change announced by the Turing team. Since the first delay of the smartphone back in December, fans have been asking the company about the status of the OS development.

Today, the delay announcement contains some information on the OS development, and some might not be pleased by TRI's decision.

Snapdragon 801 chipset is better optimized to run on Sailfish OS

Although it was originally announced as one of the most secure and durable Android smartphones, the Turing Phone will not be running Google's mobile platform.

TRI confirmed they had decided to replace Android with Sailfish OS probably because of the Snapdragon 801 processor inside the phone, which is more optimized for the Finnish mobile platform.

“Sailfish OS runs exceptionally fast on the Turing. You will not have to worry about performance issues with Turing's Snapdragon 801 because Sailfish OS has been optimized to run fast on your Turing Phone.

“The Turing Phone will still be able to run Android Apps on the Sailfish OS without issue. An Android application store will be available for you to download your favorite apps,” the company says in an email to its customers.

In related news, TRI announces that it will be hosting its first Turing Developers Conference (TDC) during Q2 2016.
