Just one day after the launch of the Tails 2.12 maintenance release to the Tails 2.x stable series of the amnesic incognito live system based on Debian GNU/Linux, the development is pleased to announce the release of the fourth Beta of Tails 3.0.

Coming exactly one month after the third Beta milestone, Tails 3.0 Beta 4 is here with all the latest and most important security updates and bug fixes ported from the repositories of the upcoming Debian GNU/Linux 9 "Stretch" operating system. It also includes all the changes implemented in the Tails 2.12 release.

"The fourth Beta for the upcoming version 3.0 is out. We are very excited and cannot wait to hear what you think about it. Tails 3.0 will be the first version of Tails based on Debian 9 (Stretch). As such, it upgrades essentially all included software. We will provide security updates for Tails 3.0~beta4," reads today's announcement.

Orca screen reader and Tails Greeter receive improvements

There's not much in Tails 3.0 Beta 4 besides the security fixes backported from the Debian Testing repos, except for various small improvements to the Tails Greeter and Orca screen reader. Also, it looks like the system tray icon of the Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger app was replaced with the guifications plugin.

As expected, you can download the Live ISO image of Tails 3.0 Beta 4, which is supported only on 64-bit computers, right now from our website if you want to take if for a test drive. However, please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, not to be used for production work.

If you're running either the second or third Beta of Tails 3.0 on your personal computer, you can also perform an upgrade to Tails 3.0 Beta 4, which is an automatic process. Please read the official announcement (link above) for the known issues. The final release of Tails 3.0 launches on June 13, 2017.
