Windows 10’s quickly gaining ground in Europe

Windows 10 adoption is growing, but if we look at statistics comparing the performance of the new OS in North America and Europe, the latter seems to be much more interested in new software than the former.

September 2015 data provided by StatCounter shows that, in Europe, Windows 10 usage grows faster than in all the other regions, but there’s one specific market where the new operating system is really skyrocketing.

Denmark was one of the countries that rapidly gave up on Windows XP after end of support was announced in April 2014, so it’s no surprise that local computer users also switched to Windows 10 just as fast. And these figures show that adoption is going incredibly well.

15 percent market share in just 40 days

Right now, Windows 7 is the number one desktop operating system in the country, as it’s running on 40.81 percent of the PCs there, but its drop is pretty much obvious. Previously, Windows 7 was powering 1 in 2 PCs in Denmark, so it lost nearly 10 percent in just one month.

Windows 8.1 is second, according to StatCounter figures, with 17.84 percent, followed by OS X with 17.5 percent. Windows 10 comes fourth with 15.63 percent, so it is only 2 percent behind the second place. If the same adoption trend is maintained, Windows 10 has big chances to become the second-most used desktop OS in Denmark in the coming months.

In case you’re wondering where Windows 8 is, the modern OS dropped to 2.03 percent, which is even behind Windows Vista with 2.44 percent. Windows XP is quickly going down, so it’s now at 1.75 percent.

All these figures are reported after approximately 40 days on the market for Windows 10, so Microsoft’s new OS is very likely to take the second seat anytime soon, especially because more Windows 7 and 8.1 PCs eligible for the free upgrade get it.
