It seems the Aero won't be all that mind-blowing

Word that HTC is gearing up to release another high-end device which will make it out on the market in Q4 2014 has surfaced online not so long ago.

The phone is now known as the HTC Aero, and according to the rumor mill, it should be one of the first recipients of Qualcomm’s next-gen Snapdragon 820 system-on-chip. Or maybe this will not be the case after all, as well-known leakster Evan Blass’ (@evleaks) new tweet seems to indicate.

According to the tip, the HTC Aero won’t be a device pertaining to a new family of handsets, which is in all honesty a little bit disappointing. After having to apologize to its investors for poor performance, HTC promised it would deliver a “hero product” towards the end of the year, and we assumed this was it.

The HTC Aero might not be all that impressive

Well, according to @evleaks, the HTC Aero is actually going to be part of the “One” lineup, but despite this, we should expect an “intermediate” device. The wording here is a little bit tricky, so can we assume that intermediate means middle-range?

Either way, the device will land on Sprint, although it’s not clear whether the phone will be an exclusive to the carrier or just a local version of an international device. We’re told this will happen in early November.

No other information is given about HTC’s upcoming mystery device, but considering that Evan Blass previously claimed that the HTC Aero would follow the M9+ (due for release in Europe in Q3 2015), we might speculate that the phone is actually a runner-up or an alternate version of the M9+ or maybe the M9.

The M9 comes equipped with a Snapdragon 810 chip out of the box, while the M9+ takes advantage of a 64-bit octa-core MediaTek MT6795T processor clocked at 2.2GHz (with PowerVR G6200 GPU). So maybe the HTC Aero will make a debut on the market with a Snapdragon 808 underneath its bonnet.

It could be a possibility given that some device manufacturers have opted for the Snapdragon 808 for their flagship products, like LG and its G4 model.

Since we’re not sitting on any concrete evidence here, we’d better wait and see what else comes out about the Aero, before we draw a conclusion.
