The flood games are slowly being opened

Users can only buy a Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition phone if they play a game on the official website and get one of the very illusive invitations. Now, that number of invitations has been tripled.

Meizu and Canonical are not doing a regular product launch, and they don't intend to change that anytime soon. For now, the two companies are making the MX4 Ubuntu Edition phone available to a select few, and that's just what they want. This way, only the users who really want an Ubuntu phone will most likely get one, and that also means developers will receive previous feedback from the community.

Ubuntu Touch might be a stable OS, but it's not a complete one. You can think of the Meizu phones as a testing playground for Ubuntu. It's easy to understand why you don't want this phone to land in the hands of regular users. They wouldn't know that Ubuntu is still pretty much a work in progress and that it's not ready for prime time.

The number of invites is increasing

Meizu is allowing a certain number of users to get invites every day, but no one knows how many of those invites are available. Nonetheless, that number recently doubled, and now Meizu and Canonical are announcing that the number of invites has just tripled.

"Hurrah! We've tripled the number of invites for the +MEIZU MX4 ‪#‎UbuntuPhone‬ via our Origami wall. Check it out with the chance to win here" reads an entry on the official Meizu Google+ page.

We are already trying one of these new Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition phones, and so far they've proven to be quite nice. It's a powerful phone, and that really makes a difference with Ubuntu Touch. A full review of the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition will be soon available on Softpedia.
