Samsung unveiled the highly anticipated Galaxy Note 7 on August 2, during the Galaxy Unpacked event in New York, and the company also announced a new Gear VR headset to go with the smartphone. The new Gear VR is now available for pre-order on Amazon as well, with shipments expected to arrive on August 19.

Amazon is offering the new Gear VR for the price of $99.99, and free shipping is included, according to Phone Arena. The headset will arrive on August 19 and will be compatible with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, and Galaxy S6 edge+.

The Note 7 is said to provide the “best-in-class entertainment,” and the 5.7-inch QHD Super AMOLED display allows for a greater immersive experience when paired with the new Gear VR. The new Gear VR headset boasts improvements to controls and a new home button. The touchpad has more room for navigating in VR, and the headset was made to be more comfortable for wearing.

The new Gear VR comes with a widened field of view

In addition, Samsung has announced that the new Gear VR comes with a widened field of view, from 96 degrees on the previous Gear VR to 101 degrees. It weighs 345 grams and comes with an accelerometer, gyrometer, and proximity sensor.

Samsung didn't limit this headset to just the black color variant, as a blue variant is also available. The new Gear VR sports a USB Type-C port to make it compatible with the Galaxy Note 7.

The USB Type-C connector can be swapped for an included micro-USB connector so that the headset would work with other Samsung smartphones in the Galaxy line too. The new Gear VR will arrive on shelves on August 19, the same day when the Galaxy Note 7 will be officially released.
