Users can also keep the Siri remote connected while playing

Developers that are currently testing their games and apps using the Apple TV Developer Kits received after September 9 and in the last couple of days have discovered that the new Apple TV does not allow users to connect more than two MFi (Made for iPhone) Bluetooth controllers at a time.

This discovery comes following the one that detailed how all applications and games developed for Apple TV's tvOS are required to offer support for Apple's Siri remote, the touchscreen interface included in the new Apple TV remote being the default fallback when users don't have an MFi controller.

As reported by TouchArcade, even though one will not be able to connect more than two MFi Bluetooth controllers to the Apple TV 4th generation, a third player will still be able to join the game using the Siri remote that can be connected as the third Bluetooth device.

This means that, if a game comes with support for multiplayer gaming, three is the highest number of players that will be able to join in the fun.

Apple might still increase the number of MFi controllers connectable to the new Apple TV until the late October release

As the current number of MFi Bluetooth controllers that users can connect to the new Apple TV seems quite restrictive, especially in the case of games that would be more enjoyable when a larger number of players join, Apple might still be issuing a tvOS update to change this before the official launch of the Apple TV 4th generation in late October 2015.

The new Apple TV bundles support for third-party controllers, the tvOS App Store, Siri, and the new Siri Remote, and it was unveiled by Apple during the September 9 "Hey Siri" keynote. It also features a new TV platform that should bring most of the apps in the iOS App Store on the large-screened TV in your living room.

The Apple TV 4th generation features a dual-core A8 processor and will be available in two different models, starting at $149. The older Apple TV 3rd generation, which sports a single-core A5, will still be available starting at $69.
