It will be launched as a mid-range Android device

Traditionally, Motorola is one of the first companies to release major Android updates for its flagship and high-end smartphones, but many times some mid-range devices get upgraded as well. This year is no exception, as Motorola has already kicked off the rollout of Android 7.0 Nougat for the Moto Z.

A couple of other Motorola smartphones will begin receiving Android 7.0 Nougat updates by the end of the year, including some of the Moto X family and Moto G4.

However, Motorola hasn't yet launched a smartphone that would ship with Google's latest Android Nougat operating system right out of the box.

The US-based company was very busy marketing its Moto Z high-end device, which comes along with a good number of Moto Mods.

But that's likely to be “addressed” in the not-so-distant future, as Motorola is now rumored to launch its first Android Nougat smartphone.

The device is internally known as Moto “Cedric,” but it's likely to be released on the market under a different name.

Obviously, Motorola hasn't said anything about the Cedric, but reputable leaker Roland Quandt has just revealed some information about the phone, which might or might not be entirely accurate.

Single and dual-SIM versions inbound

According to him, the Moto Cedric will be a mid-range smartphone that will be initially launched in China, but it will eventually make it to other countries as well.

The phone is listed at FCC with model numbers XT1670 / XT1675 / XT1676 and it will be available as single SIM or dual-SIM variants. Also, the smartphone could be released with either 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage or 2GB RAM and 32GB of internal memory.

In both cases, the smartphone will include microSD card slot for memory expansion. Aside from that, the Cedric is supposed to be powered by a 2,800 mAh battery.

Information about the phone's processor is scarce, but there's a high chance it will rock a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset.

Lastly, Motorola Cedric is supposed to ship with Android 7.0 Nougat right out of the box. No word on available and pricing options, though.
