iPhone 6 the Most Popular iPhone Yet, iPhone 6s to Follow

Apple released the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus eleven months ago, on September 19, 2014, and even though they've had seven iPhone models on the market, the bigger and the latter to arrive are now dominating in device share statistics.

After almost a year, Apple's iPhone 6 already has between 30 and 36 % of the iPhone device share, according to statistics released by Localytics and Mixpanel.

This is a very high one for a device that the Cupertino tech giant had postponed releasing for years on end for fear that there wasn't enough market for big-screened smartphones.

Furthermore, its bigger brother, the iPhone 6 Plus, also commands between 9 and 11% of the iPhone device share.

When combined, the iPhone device share for the 6 and 6 Plus models is around 39 to 47%, depending on who makes the market analysis.

iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will be Apple's most popular devices yet in less than a year

Because, throughout the year, iPhone 6's device share has constantly grown, eating away 3 to 4 % out of the total numbers of older iPhone models, and having the hardware-upgraded and sturdier iPhone 6s just announced by Apple with a release date of September 25, we can expect a similar evolution, with the new 6s and 6s Plus models cannibalizing the iPhone 5s, iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c.

Besides the improved hardware and the tougher Apple Watch aluminum used to build the case, the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus models will also come with Apple's 3D Touch tech that adds a couple of extra layers of interaction for apps running on iOS 9.

If the iPhone 6 adoption rate is to be taken as a pattern for future 4.7-inch iPhone models, and combined with the more than optimistic iPhone 6s and 6s Plus pre-order numbers for the first weekend, the new models should go past the 50% iPhone device share mark in less than a year.
