Samsung stated that it managed to sell more than 1 million units of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ in its home country since the smartphone was officially launched on April 21. The South Korean company revealed the information on May 28.

“The phone’s predecessors S6 and S7 hit the 100 million mark in 75 and 74 days since their launch, respectively. The S8 is selling almost two times faster than that,” said a Samsung official for The Investor. By comparison, the Galaxy S8 reached the 1 million sold units mark 37 days after the phone was announced.

Since pre-orders for the two devices started on April 9, Samsung has regularly revealed sales data of the latest flagship smartphones. Through this move, the smartphone maker wanted to build the hype even more and improve sales performance.

Samsung is expected to sell 50.4 million Galaxy S8 units this year

Pre-orders for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ surpassed 550,000 units two days after they launched on April 9, while the figure exceeded the 1 million mark on April 18. On May 1, Samsung started rolling out virtual AI assistant Bixby, at which point the company managed to sell 160,000 units on that day alone.

Sales of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ already surpassed the 10 million mark this month and there’s no reason why the sales trend shouldn’t continue. Industry analysts say that Samsung will manage to sell about 50.4 million Galaxy S8 and S8+ units by the end of this year. Obviously, Samsung is hoping to reach an even higher sales mark.

Aside from the Galaxy S8 and S8+, the South Korean company is expected to release the new Galaxy S8 Active soon. The variant will feature a flat display and roughly the same specs as the standard model. It will have compliance with MIL-STD-810G standard of durability and IP68 certification against water and dust damages. The phone should arrive sometime in June.
