Immediately after releasing the seventh Beta build of the anticipated Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan computer operating system for Mac hardware to developers enrolled in the Apple Developer program, Apple started seeding the fifth Public Beta build of OS X El Capitan to users worldwide.

The Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan Public Beta 5 update is available right now in the Mac App Store and promises to add many under-the-hood improvements that will lead to a more stable, secure, and reliable operating system for your Mac. As Apple noted in the release notes of OS X El Capitan Public Beta 5, this update is recommended for all users.

If you're using OS X 10.10 Yosemite and you plan on jumping ship to the El Capitan Public Beta builds, you're in luck as we've written an in-depth article explaining all the steps you need to take in order to upgrade your stable Yosemite installation to the unstable builds of El Capitan safely.

Of course, this means that if you care about the overall stability of your computer, you should not jump ship to El Capitan Public Betas and stay with OS X Yosemite, as Apple will still update it with maintenance releases from time to time until the final release of OS X 10.11 El Capitan is made generally available.

Here's how to install OS X 10.11 El Capitan Public Beta 5

Those of you who have the forth Public Beta build of OS X 10.11 El Capitan installed on your Mac computer can update to the Public Beta 5 release right now. All you have to do is fire up the Mac App Store app, go to the "Updates" tab, and wait for the list of updates to be refreshed.

You should see the new "OS X El Capitan Public Beta 5" entry, so make sure that you click on the "Update" button in front of it, then click on the "Download & Restart" button on the pop-up dialog, and wait for the update to be downloaded and installed. Your Mac computer will be automatically restarted for the update to be applied properly.
