Photos likely stolen following breach of iCloud account

Hackers have recently managed to compromise another celebrity’s cloud account to steal intimate photos and publish them online as part of a reboot of the Fappening saga.

British soap opera actress Natalie Cassidy, best known for playing Sonya Fowler in EastEnders since 1993, reportedly appears in six different photos published on websites notorious for releasing leaks as part of the Fappening.

No details have been provided on the breach, but British tabloid Metro says there’s a chance the photos were extracted from iCloud after hackers managed to break into the account.

Phishing attack possible

Cassidy hasn’t said a single thing about the breach and the actress remained completely tight-lipped on the alleged hack. No details have been shared on whether she plans to contact law enforcement or not. Previously, celebrities whose photos were stolen by hackers and posted online reached out to the police in an attempt to find the hackers and remove the content from the Internet.

As far as the iCloud hack is concerned, the account was most likely breached with a traditional phishing scam that required the owner to reset the password. Hackers send victims emails looking legitimate and requesting password resets on links that are hosted on third-party servers and collecting the credentials submitted by users.

This is the technique previously used by hackers in other Fappening breaches, and there’s a good chance a similar attack was employed this time as well.

Last week, private photos of Drake Bell had also leaked online following what’s believed to be a successful attack on his cloud account where the content was stored. Other celebrities whose X-rated photos made it to the web include Fox Sports host Charissa Thompson, Blac Chyna, and Jorgie Porter.
