Video game developer ZeniMax Online and publisher Bethesda have ambitious plans for the coming Imperial City downloadable content pack for The Elder Scrolls Online, and one of the major new features are the Tel Var Stones, which will act as a new alternative currency for the MMO.

The official announcement explains that gamers will be able to find small fragments of the White-Gold Tower, which were separated from the structure when Molag Bal tried to move it into his realm of Coldharbour.

ZeniMax Online explains that "Tel Var Stones possess magicka and mystical varliance in a previously-unknown combination of arcane power and are therefore of value to anyone experimenting with enchantments. The Imperial City seems to be the only place they can be found, so a booming trade has sprung up around them."

Tel Var Stones can be dropped by monsters in the Imperial City, with the more powerful ones offering bigger rewards, and cunning scamps also drop the new currency.

Killing players who are working for an opposing alliance gives access to the fragments.

The Tel Var Stones cannot be traded, sent to another player or destroyed, they do not take up any inventory space, and gamers can bank them.

Once gamers collect a lot of Tel Var Stones, they will be able to use them in the home base that each of the factions in the MMO has in the Imperial City sewer system.

There are six new sets of armor that gamers can collect and use: Black Rose, Meritorious Service, Phoenix Armor, Powerful Assault, Reactive Armor, and Shieldbreaker.

Merchants  also offer other powerful items, as well as crafting materials and a special Sigil of Imperial Retreat, which works as a teleportation spell to get out of a bad situation.

The Tel Var Stones cannot be traded, but all items obtained using the currency can be offered to another player.

The Imperial City DLC for The Elder Scrolls Online is set to be delivered on August 31 and will open up a major new area for MMO fans.

Bethesda and ZeniMax Online are planning to deliver more content for the title every six months in order to keep the player base engaged.
