The next set of expansions brings fan favorite factions

Bethesda and Zenimax Online Studios confirm that they're going to add two fan favorite factions to The Elder Scrolls Online in 2016, in the form of the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves Guild, as part of the future expansions for the multiplayer title.

The Elder Scrolls Online had a rocky beginning, first pushing its regular subscription-based experience, and then transitioning to a free Tamriel Unlimited iteration, which can be played by anyone who owns the game and has an optional subscription for extra goodies.

Next month, the first major expansion for The Elder Scrolls Online is set to appear, in the form of the Imperial City, which was already detailed last week by developer Zenimax Online Studios.

At the same time, the team is also working hard on the second DLC pack, which adds the Orcish city of Orsinium.

More expansions are coming with big additions

At QuakeCon 2015 over the weekend, via GameSpot, Game Director Matt Firor explained that Orsinium was on track for a launch right at the end of 2015, as the goal is to debut one new expansion every quarter.

Following the release of the new city, two more expansions are scheduled to appear in the first and second quarters of 2016, which are going to add some fan favorite factions to the multiplayer game.

One of them is going to add the Dark Brotherhood, a group of assassins who have often played key roles during the single-player Elder Scrolls titles.

The other brings the Thieves Guild, which also started playing bigger and more important roles in the last few titles.

No word yet on just how players will interact with the new factions or which one will appear first for the game.

However, given the next two expansions, it's safe to say that new environments, settlements, missions, gear, and other mechanics are going to appear alongside the scheduled additions to The Elder Scrolls Online.

Until then, Imperial City debuts on August 31 for PC and Mac, and on September 15 for PS4 and Xbox One.
