To be implemented in the upcoming OTA-9.5 update

Canonical, through Łukasz Zemczak, informs us today about the latest work done by the developers of the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system in preparation for the upcoming OTA-9.5 hotfix update.

According to Mr. Zemczak, it would appear that the massive Mir 0.19 display server update has finally landed for the upcoming OTA-9.5 update, which is currently in final freeze, but things will still be implemented for a few days in it due to the fact that the Ubuntu Touch developers had a short window for landings since OTA-9.

Mir 0.19 appears to be a big release that contains numerous improvements related to the Ubuntu convergence. However, Mir 0.19 is not the only thing that landed for the upcoming OTA-9.5 hotfix update, due for release on February 10, 2016, for all supported Ubuntu Phone devices, as it was accompanied by QtMir and U-S-C updates too.

"The OTA-9.5 haste continues! Another required landing has been released to the overlay-ppa - the big mir 0.19 silo (along with u-s-c, qtmir and others) with a lot of convergence related fixes. We built a new image afterwards to ease future dogfooding," said Łukasz Zemczak, Ubuntu Foundations.

The major Unity 8 update is coming soon

At the moment of writing this article, the Ubuntu Touh developers are working hard to implement the rest of the fixes and improvements, as well as application updates, for the Ubuntu Touch OTA-9.5 hotfix, which will include the major Unity 8 update, a new Web Browser app, new PulseAudio, and new Content-Hub package.

For Nexus devices, the team is also preparing some Bluetooth improvements, which currently lie in the rc-proposed channel. All of these will land for the OTA-9.5 update by Monday, February 1, 2016. After that, the RC (Release Candidate) images will be generated and the Ubuntu QA team will begin testing them.
