Microsoft indeed brought back the Start menu in Windows 10, but the new version comes with a number of tweaks that aren't exactly everyone's cup of tea, so many users still prefer the old Windows 7 layout, without the live tiles and with the classic layout.

As a result, third-party apps that can restore the old Start menu are these people's hope, so today we have some pretty excellent news for users dreaming about the Windows 7 design.

Classic Shell, which was one of the most successful Windows 8 Start menu apps, now works on Windows 10, as a recent update has brought full support for the new operating system.

Previous releases also worked pretty smoothly on Windows 10, but according to the official change log, Classic Shell 4.2.4 is the first to include “finalized support for Windows 10 with multiple bug fixes and performance improvements.”

In other words, if you want Classic Shell on Windows 10, this is the version you need.

Look and features

Classic Shell comes on Windows 10 with the same look and features as on Windows 8.1, so you'll have the familiar interface and the options that you already come across in the previous Windows version.

As you can see in the screenshots below, Classic Shell is indeed based on the design of the Windows 7 Start menu, so if this was the feature you really wanted, there's no other app getting so close to the original UI.

As far as customization options are concerned, there are indeed some settings that you can play with, including different Start buttons, but for a fully integrated experience, it's better to just use the default Start button that comes with Windows 10.

Overall, this app is clearly worth a try if you want Windows 10 to look and feel more like Windows 7, so go ahead and download Classic Shell right now to give it a try.
