Choosing the best Internet security suite for Windows 10 is not as easy as it sounds, especially because several factors are involved, including the price, the impact on system performance, and obviously, its efficiency.

Fortunately for Windows 10 users, German antivirus testing organization AV-TEST has conducted a new research to determine the best Internet security suites for Microsoft’s latest operating system looking into both detection rates and how much it reduces system performance.

The winners are nearly the same as always: Kaspersky Internet Security, McAfee Internet Security, and VIPRE AdvancedSecurity have already received the maximum 18 points, after scoring 6 points for protection, another 6 points for performance, and 6 final points for usability.

The best and the worst

Solutions from AhnLab, Avira, Bitdefender, and Trend Micro have also received the AV-TEST certification, though in this case their score dropped to an overall 17.5 points rating.

The last in the chart was ESET’s Internet Security, which is doing worse with every new test, having scored only 15 points. The lowest score was obtained in the performance test where it received only 4 points.

AV-TEST says that in order to test the detection rates of each security product it used both brand-new malware that was only a few hours old, as well as malware samples that were already known and created in the last two weeks. For performance tests, it ran a series of operations like copying files, visiting websites, downloading, launching and installing programs.

“A noticeably higher system load was generated by the packages from Comodo, K7 Computing, ESET and Panda Security. They received a mere 4.5 to 3.5 points,” the testing organization says.

When it comes to false positives, products from Avira, K7, Kaspersky, McAfee and Trend Micro topped the charts with 0 to 3 false alarms during the entire tests, with Avira and Kaspersky by far the best with just a single false positive. Microsoft’s Windows Defender and PC Pitstop software recorded between 25 and 28 false positives.
